Defense Review: Colt Defense Wins $126 Million ($126M) Contract to Produce M240B Machine Gun (MMG) for U.S. Army

Actually, Colt manufactured most of the US military's machine guns up until WW2. These include the post-Civil War Gatling Guns, Maxim M1904, Benet-Mercie M1909, Vickers M1915, and the various Browning designs (M1895, M1917, M1918 BAR, M1919, M1921, and M2).

FN retains sole-source rights to the lightweight M240L variant, which could very well end up replacing the M240B. The US military won't receive second-source rights to the M240L until a specific number is purchased, and royalties will be due until January 1, 2050.

That's a lot of pizza money. How many are we getting for that kind of cash? Spares, extra barrels, etc...?

Speaking of the M240L's weight, I just came across the following press release:

The M240L has been under development for quite a while. It was previously known as the M240E6.

In related news, Colt Defense was also awarded a five year IDIQ contract to supply short barrels for the M249. The first delivery order was for 14,000 barrels, and over the life of the contract, up to 90,000 barrels may be purchased.
